Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the spark plug leads and battery for safety.
  2. Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the lower unit (gearcase) mounting bolts.
  3. Carefully lower and separate the gearcase from the upper housing.
  4. Unbolt and remove the water pump cover to access the impeller.
  5. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller fins, then slide it off the driveshaft, removing the Woodruff key.
  6. Clean all gasket surfaces and remove any old sealant or debris.
  7. Install the new gaskets, wear plate, and insert cartridge.
  8. Place the new Woodruff key in its slot and slide the new impeller onto the shaft, turning the shaft clockwise to seat the fins correctly inside the housing.
  9. Reinstall the water pump housing, tightening bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  10. Reattach the lower unit to the outboard, ensuring the driveshaft and water tube align.
  11. Reconnect the battery and test the engine in water, confirming a strong, steady stream from the "tell-tale" outlet.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this kit fits my Yamaha engine?

The surest way is to match your engine's original part number to one listed in our Part Number Matrix. Additionally, you can find your model and year in the Engine & Model Compatibility table. Always double-check, as some mid-year models can have variations.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" port, or a high engine temperature alarm. Visually, a worn impeller may have cracked, brittle, or missing fins.

How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?

As a crucial preventative maintenance item, most marine mechanics recommend replacing the impeller every 1 to 2 years, or every 100-200 hours of operation. Frequent use in saltwater, silty, or sandy conditions may require more frequent changes.

Is everything needed for the job included?

This kit includes all the direct replacement components for the water pump assembly itself (impeller, gaskets, plates, etc.). You will still need standard mechanic's tools, a torque wrench, and potentially marine-grade gasket sealant (not included).

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended for safety and performance.
