  7. Lower the engine and reconnect the battery. Check the steering and trim function before operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What is the difference between part numbers 6K1-45371-01-00 and 6K1-45371-02-00?

Part number 6K1-45371-01-00 is for standard rotation outboards, while 6K1-45371-02-00 is specifically for counter-rotation models. This anode is designed to replace both, but it's crucial to confirm which version your engine requires as it affects steering trim.

How do I know when to replace my trim tab anode?

You should inspect your anodes at least once a year or every 100 hours. Replace this anode when it is approximately 50-60% eroded. Heavy pitting, crumbling, or significant loss of mass are clear indicators that it's time for a replacement.

What is the dual purpose of this part?

This component serves two functions. First, it acts as a sacrificial anode, attracting corrosion to itself to protect more critical and expensive metal parts of your gearcase. Second, it functions as an adjustable trim tab to counteract propeller torque steer, helping your boat track straight.

Is this anode suitable for both saltwater and freshwater?

Yes, this is a zinc alloy anode, which is the industry standard for all-purpose use in saltwater, freshwater, and brackish environments, providing reliable protection across different water salinities.

My newer 4-stroke model (2020+) is listed. Is compatibility guaranteed?

While the data covers models up to 2024, manufacturers can make small changes. We strongly recommend verifying the part by comparing your old anode's shape and part number to the images and specifications in this listing before ordering.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
