Product Details

This Water Pump Repair Kit is a replacement water-pump service kit for selected Yamaha 40–60 HP outboard motors. It is listed for Yamaha applications using OEM repair-kit numbers 63D-W0078-00-00 and 63D-W0078-01-00. The documented catalog applications include both 2-stroke and 4-stroke models, with fitment depending on the exact engine model, year, shaft configuration, and serial-number range.

Use the OEM number and the complete identification plate information on your outboard to verify compatibility before ordering. The two OEM numbers are associated with different model-year applications, so they should not be treated as interchangeable for every Yamaha 40–60 HP engine without confirming the specific application.

  • Water-pump repair kit for selected Yamaha outboards.
  • Designed as a replacement for the specified Yamaha water-pump repair-kit applications.
  • Suitable for documented 40 HP, 50 HP, and 60 HP Yamaha applications shown below.
  • Aftermarket replacement; Yamaha is referenced only for compatibility and part-number identification.

Part Number Matrix

These are the manufacturer reference numbers associated with the water-pump repair-kit applications.

Brand Part Number Application Type
Yamaha 63D-W0078-00-00 Water pump repair kit; documented mainly on 1995–1996 40 HP and 50 HP applications, including selected 2-stroke and 4-stroke models.
Yamaha 63D-W0078-01-00 Water pump repair kit; documented on later applications from 1997 onward, including selected 40 HP, 50 HP, and 60 HP models.

Engine & Model Compatibility

The catalog records below show representative Yamaha applications. Fitment is conditional on the exact model code, year, shaft configuration, and serial-number range; a horsepower match alone is not sufficient.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm that this kit fits my Yamaha outboard?

Compare your original water-pump repair-kit number with 63D-W0078-00-00 or 63D-W0078-01-00, then confirm the complete Yamaha model code, model year, shaft configuration, and serial-number range. Do not rely on horsepower alone.

What are the signs of a failing water pump?

Common signs include a weak or absent tell-tale stream, an overheating warning, elevated engine temperature, or visible damage to the old impeller. A blocked tell-tale passage can produce similar symptoms, so inspect the complete cooling system.

What is the difference between replacing only the impeller and using a repair kit?

A repair kit can replace additional wear and sealing components together with the impeller. The wear plate, insert cup, gaskets, key, and related parts should be inspected for scoring, distortion, corrosion, or damage before reassembly.

Can I reuse the old housing or fasteners?

Reuse only components that meet the service requirements for your exact engine. Replace parts that are warped, deeply scored, corroded, damaged, or unable to hold the specified torque. Follow the Yamaha service manual for fastener requirements.

Is this a genuine Yamaha part?

No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement kit. Yamaha part numbers are shown only as compatibility references.

How often should the water-pump components be replaced?

Replacement timing depends on engine use, storage, water conditions, and the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Inspect the cooling system regularly and replace the impeller and damaged wear or sealing components whenever condition requires.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify the exact engine model, year, shaft configuration, and serial-number range before ordering.
  • Compare the original part and the supplied components before installation.
  • Do not run an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • Use the applicable service manual for torque values, lower-unit removal, and reassembly procedures.
  • Professional installation is recommended when you are not experienced with outboard lower-unit service.
