What’s in the Box

  • 1 x 9" Spark Plug Ignition Coil Wire (582365/18-5231-1)

Installation Notes

  1. Safety First: Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is cool before beginning work.
  2. Locate and Remove Old Wire: Identify the spark plug wire to be replaced. Firmly grip the boot (not the wire) and twist gently to pull it from both the spark plug and the ignition coil/distributor.
  3. Compare Wires: Lay the new wire next to the old one to confirm the length and boot angles match.
  4. Apply Dielectric Grease: Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of each boot to prevent corrosion and ease future removal.
  5. Install New Wire: Push the boots firmly onto the spark plug and the coil/distributor terminal until you feel them click into place. A secure connection is critical.
  6. Secure and Test: Route the wire correctly, away from hot or sharp engine components. Reconnect the battery and start the engine to test for proper function.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Is this the correct wire for my specific engine model year?

This wire fits a broad range of Johnson/Evinrude V4-V6 engines. The most reliable way to confirm fitment is to match your original part number with the numbers provided in our Part Number Matrix. If your part number is listed, this wire is a compatible replacement.

What are the signs of a failing spark plug wire?

Common symptoms include rough idling, engine misfires (especially under load), decreased fuel economy, trouble starting the engine, and visible damage like cracks, burns, or corrosion on the wire or boots.

How often should spark plug wires be replaced?

While there's no fixed interval, it's good practice to inspect them during regular tune-ups and replace them if you notice any signs of wear or performance degradation. Marine environments are harsh, so inspection is key.

What is the difference between this and the OEM wire?

This wire is designed to meet or exceed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications for fit, form, and function. It uses comparable high-quality materials like a Kevlar core and silicone jacketing to ensure performance and durability at a better value.

Can I cut this wire to a shorter length?

No. This wire is a specific length (9 inches) and has factory-terminated ends. Cutting it would damage the conductor and prevent a secure connection, leading to engine performance issues.

What does RFI suppression do?

Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) suppression prevents the spark energy from creating electromagnetic noise that can interfere with your boat's electronics, including fish finders, GPS, and stereo systems. This wire provides superior RFI suppression.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended for safety and performance.
