Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I choose between Stainless Steel and Zinc Plated?
Choose 304 Stainless Steel for maximum corrosion protection, especially for saltwater use. Zinc Plated steel offers good rust resistance for freshwater applications and is a more economical choice.
How do I know which shaft length and diameter to order?
Measure your existing shaft's diameter and overall length. If replacing the roller as well, measure the inner width of the mounting bracket and the inner diameter of the roller to determine the correct shaft size.
When should I replace my roller shafts?
Inspect your shafts regularly for signs of bending, heavy corrosion, or significant wear. Replace them immediately if any damage is found to prevent trailer failure and potential damage to your boat's hull.
What are pal nuts and how do they work?
Pal nuts, or push nuts, are single-thread locknuts that grip the shaft to hold it in place. They are typically installed by tapping them on with a hammer or a deep socket until they are snug against the bracket.
Can I reuse my old pal nuts?
It is not recommended. Pal nuts are designed for a single use, as they deform to grip the shaft. For a secure installation, always use new pal nuts.
The shaft seems too short for the bracket. Is this normal?
The shaft must be long enough to pass through both sides of the mounting bracket with enough space to attach the pal nuts securely. It should not be so long that it allows excessive side-to-side roller movement. Always confirm your measurements before ordering.
