  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal as a safety precaution.
  3. Relieve pressure from the fuel line by following the manufacturer's procedure. Have a rag ready to catch any residual fuel.
  4. Using pliers, release the clamp securing the old connector to the fuel hose and slide it off.
  5. Slide a new hose clamp onto the fuel line, then firmly press the new female connector onto the hose barb.
  6. Position and tighten the hose clamp to secure the connector to the hose.
  7. Clip the new connector onto the male fitting on the fuel tank, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
  8. Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system using the primer bulb until it feels firm, and carefully inspect for any leaks before starting the engine.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this connector is the right one for my engine?

This connector fits a wide range of Mercury/Mariner 4–40 HP outboards (2-stroke and 4-stroke). The best way to confirm is to check your existing part number against the references in our Part Number Matrix. Also, verify that you need a female connector for the fuel tank side that connects to a 5/16" (8mm) hose.

What is the difference between the tank-end and engine-end connector?

This is a female tank-end connector, which clips onto the male fitting on your portable fuel tank. The engine-end connector is typically a different style and attaches directly to the outboard motor. Ensure you are replacing the correct part.

There's a conflict in hose size (3/8" vs. 5/16"). Which is it?

While some aftermarket sources list this part for a 3/8" hose, the most common and widely confirmed size for this OEM-equivalent connector is 5/16" (8mm). This part is designed for a 5/16" fuel hose.

What are the signs of a failing fuel line connector?

Common symptoms include fuel leaks at the connection point, a strong smell of gasoline around the tank, difficulty starting the engine, or the engine stalling. A loose or cracked connector should be replaced immediately.

How often should these connectors be replaced?

There is no fixed replacement interval, but fuel line components should be inspected annually for signs of cracking, brittleness, or leaks. Replace them as needed to prevent fuel system failures.

This is an aftermarket part. Is it as good as OEM?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

What are the shipping speed and cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info
