Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental starting.
  2. Carefully relieve any pressure in the fuel system. Place rags under the pump to catch any spilled fuel.
  3. Note the orientation of the fuel lines, then disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the old pump.
  4. Remove the mounting bolts securing the pump to the engine block.
  5. Remove the old fuel pump and discard the old gasket. Thoroughly clean the mounting surface on the engine, ensuring it is free of old gasket material and debris.
  6. Position the new gasket and fuel pump onto the engine block.
  7. Hand-tighten the mounting bolts, then torque them to the manufacturer's specified values in a crisscross pattern to ensure an even seal. Do not overtighten.
  8. Reconnect the fuel inlet and outlet hoses to the correct ports on the new pump and secure the clamps.
  9. Reconnect the battery terminal, prime the fuel system according to your engine's procedure, and check for any leaks before starting the engine.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this fuel pump fits my engine?

The best way to confirm fitment is to check your original part number against the list in our Part Number Matrix. You can also review the Engine & Model Compatibility table to find your specific HP and year. If you are still unsure, please contact us with your engine's model and serial number before purchasing.

What are common signs of a failing fuel pump?

Symptoms of a bad fuel pump include difficulty starting, engine sputtering at high speeds, loss of power, surging, or stalling. A visual inspection may also reveal cracks or leaks in the pump housing.

My engine appears in the list, but my model year is slightly different. Will it fit?

Sometimes manufacturers have mid-year changes or regional variations. The year ranges provided are based on the most accurate data available. If your model year falls just outside the listed range, contact us to verify compatibility before ordering. It is crucial to match the part number (438556) for a guaranteed fit.

How often should a mechanical fuel pump be replaced?

Mechanical fuel pumps do not have a fixed replacement interval and are typically replaced only when they fail. Lifespan depends on factors like fuel quality, ethanol content, and operating hours. Regular inspection during engine service is recommended.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
