Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this gasket will fit my engine?
This gasket fits most Mercury Marine and Mercruiser outboards and sterndrives with 3/8-16 drain/fill screw holes. To ensure a perfect match, please check your engine's serial number or drive model against the compatibility table provided on this page.
What is the difference between this yellow gasket and the older blue ones?
This yellow gasket is the current OEM-specified design, featuring a stainless steel core with a durable rubber coating. This construction offers a more reliable and reusable seal compared to the older, single-use blue fiber gaskets which are now obsolete.
How often should I replace my gearcase drain gaskets?
It is best practice to replace the drain and vent plug gaskets every time you change your gearcase oil. This is typically done annually at the end of the boating season or according to the service interval specified in your engine's owner manual.
What are the signs of a failing drain plug gasket?
The most common sign of a failed gasket is a visible gear oil leak around the drain or vent plugs. Any indication of a leak means the seal is compromised and should be replaced immediately to prevent water from entering the gearcase and causing catastrophic failure.
Can I re-use my old drain plug gasket?
No, these gaskets are designed for single-use only. While the rubber-coated steel is durable, re-using a compressed gasket risks an improper seal, which can lead to oil leaks and water intrusion. Always use a new gasket when servicing.
Is this a single gasket or a multi-pack?
The quantity of gaskets per package varies by the brand you select. We offer options from different manufacturers in packs of 2, 6, or 10. Please refer to the "What’s in the Box" section to see the contents of each option.
