Installation Notes
- Before starting, ensure the engine is off and cool. Work in a well-ventilated area and have a fire extinguisher nearby.
- Locate the existing inline fuel filter. It is typically found in the fuel line between the low-pressure fuel pump and the Vapor Separator Tank (VST).
- Place a rag under the filter to catch any spilled fuel. Use pliers to clamp the fuel lines on both sides of the filter to prevent fuel leakage.
- Release the clamps or zip ties securing the old filter to the fuel hoses and carefully remove it. Note the direction of the fuel flow arrow on the old filter.
- Install the new filter, ensuring the fuel flow arrow points in the same direction (towards the VST).
- Secure the new filter onto the fuel hoses using new hose clamps or fuel-grade zip ties. Ensure connections are tight.
- Remove the line clamps and prime the fuel system using the primer bulb until firm.
- Start the engine and carefully inspect the filter and hose connections for any signs of fuel leaks.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Where is this filter installed on the engine?
This is an intermediate fuel filter located in-line between the low-pressure (lift) fuel pump and the Vapor Separator Tank (VST). It acts as a pre-filter for the high-pressure fuel system.
What's the difference between Yamaha P/N 6C5-24251-00 and 6C5-24251-01?
They are functionally identical parts. The 6C5-24251-01 part number is a direct supersession, replacing the original 6C5-24251-00. You can use them interchangeably.
What is the recommended replacement interval?
The general service recommendation from many technicians is every 300 hours or 3 years, whichever comes first. Always consult your official Yamaha service manual for the precise maintenance schedule for your engine.
What are the signs of a clogged fuel filter?
Symptoms of a restricted filter include engine hesitation, bogging down under load, inability to reach full RPM, or difficulty starting. This happens when the engine is starved of the fuel it needs to perform.
My engine year is not listed. How can I confirm fitment?
Our data covers the most common years, but this part may fit newer models. The best way to guarantee compatibility is to visually compare it to your existing filter or verify the part number in your engine's service manual.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
