Installation Notes

  1. Place an oil drain pan beneath the existing oil filter to catch any spills.
  2. Using an appropriate oil filter wrench, turn the old filter counter-clockwise to loosen and remove it.
  3. Wipe the engine's filter mounting surface clean with a lint-free cloth, ensuring the old gasket is not stuck to it.
  4. Lightly coat the gasket of the new filter with a thin film of fresh engine oil.
  5. Carefully screw the new filter onto the threaded mount by hand until the gasket makes contact with the mounting surface.
  6. Tighten the filter an additional three-quarters to one full turn by hand. Do not overtighten.
  7. After refilling the engine with oil, run it for a few minutes and carefully inspect for any leaks around the filter.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this filter fits my specific outboard model?

The surest way is to check your current filter for a part number. Cross-reference that number with those listed in our Part Number Matrix. You can also consult the Engine & Model Compatibility table to see if your engine's HP, stroke, and year range are listed.

What is the recommended replacement interval for this oil filter?

As a best practice, replace your oil filter every time you change your engine oil. This is typically recommended every 100 hours of operation or at least once per season, whichever comes first. Refer to your engine's service manual for specific guidance.

What are the signs of a clogged or failing oil filter?

Symptoms of a failing oil filter can include a drop in oil pressure, engine sputtering or poor performance, and unusual metallic noises from the engine. If you notice these signs, check and replace your filter and oil immediately.

Is this filter compatible with synthetic and conventional oils?

Yes, this filter is designed to work effectively with all major brands of conventional and synthetic 4-stroke marine engine oils.

Do I need a special tool to install this filter?

You will likely need a standard oil filter wrench to remove the old filter, as it can be tight. The new filter should be tightened by hand, but a wrench can provide the final quarter-turn if you cannot achieve a firm grip.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
