Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this filter fits my Yamaha engine?
Check the compatibility table on this page. This filter fits most Yamaha 4-stroke outboards from 15 HP to 100 HP made from 1998 to present. The surest way to confirm fit is by matching your old filter's part number to one of the OEM or aftermarket numbers listed in our Part Number Matrix.
What's the difference between this filter and the original Yamaha one?
Our aftermarket filter is designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications for fit, function, and filtration. It is made with comparable materials, including a robust steel canister and an anti-drain-back valve, to ensure equivalent performance and protection for your engine.
How often should I replace my outboard oil filter?
As a best practice, replace the oil filter every time you change your engine oil. This is typically recommended every 100 operating hours or at least once per year, whichever comes first. Always follow the service schedule outlined in your engine's owner's manual.
What are signs of a clogged or failing oil filter?
Symptoms can include low oil pressure warnings, a decrease in engine performance, or unusually dirty/gritty oil during changes. A severely clogged filter can lead to engine damage, so it is critical to adhere to regular replacement intervals.
Why is an anti-drain-back valve important?
The anti-drain-back valve prevents oil from siphoning out of the filter and oil galleries when the engine is off. This ensures that upon your next startup, the engine's critical components receive lubrication immediately, reducing wear from dry starts.
What does the 20mm x 1.5 thread size mean?
This refers to the specifications of the threaded mounting port on the filter. "20mm" is the nominal diameter of the threads, and "1.5" is the thread pitch (the distance between threads in millimeters). This spec must match your engine's mounting stud for a secure, leak-proof fit.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials and manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, where it is batch-inspected for consistency and quality.
