Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is off, cool, and the battery is disconnected.
  2. Access the assembly where the old seal is located (e.g., lower gearcase). This may require removing other components per your service manual.
  3. Carefully pry out the old oil seal using a seal puller or flat-head screwdriver, taking care not to scratch the housing or shaft.
  4. Thoroughly clean the seal bore and shaft surface, removing any old sealant, rust, or debris.
  5. Lightly lubricate the outer edge and inner lip of the new seal with a marine-grade grease compatible with rubber.
  6. Position the new seal squarely over the bore with the spring-loaded lip facing the lubricant it needs to retain.
  7. Use a seal driver or a socket of the same outer diameter to gently and evenly tap the new seal into place until it is fully seated.
  8. Reassemble all components in the reverse order of removal, torquing fasteners to specification. Check for leaks before operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my oil seal needs replacement?

Common signs of a failing oil seal include visible oil or grease leaks around the shaft, a noticeable drop in gearcase lubricant level, or water contamination in the oil (which often creates a milky appearance).

Does the direction of the seal matter during installation?

Yes, most oil seals are directional. The side with the visible spring-loaded lip (the "working" side) should face inward toward the oil or lubricant it is designed to retain. Installing it backward will cause it to fail quickly.

Can I reuse an oil seal after removing it?

No. Oil seals are single-use components. They are often damaged during removal and will not create a reliable seal if re-installed. Always replace it with a new one.

What kind of grease should I use for installation?

Use a high-quality marine-grade grease that is specifically designed for use with bearings and seals. This helps with installation and ensures the seal's lip does not run dry on initial startup.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
