Product Details

This aftermarket shaft oil seal is listed for use with selected Johnson/Evinrude outboard midsections and OMC Cobra sterndrive lower gearcases. It forms a sealing barrier that helps retain lubricant and limit the entry of water, dirt, and other external contaminants.

This replacement is listed against Johnson/Evinrude/OMC reference numbers 0330137 and 0313398, with additional aftermarket references shown in the cross-reference table below. Always compare the dimensions, sealing arrangement, and original part before ordering.

  • Designed for a press-fit installation when the application requires it.
  • Rubber sealing material with a metal casing for use in marine service environments.
  • Helps retain lubricating oil while blocking external contaminants.

Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is switched off, cool, and safely secured. Disconnect the battery where applicable.
  2. Access the assembly where the old seal is installed, such as the lower gearcase or midsection. Component removal may be required; follow the applicable service manual.
  3. Remove the old oil seal with a suitable seal puller or carefully with a flat-head screwdriver. Avoid scratching the housing or shaft.
  4. Clean the seal bore and shaft surface thoroughly, removing old sealant, corrosion, lubricant residue, and debris.
  5. Lightly lubricate the outer edge and sealing lip with a lubricant compatible with the seal material.
  6. Position the new seal squarely in the bore. Unless the service manual specifies otherwise, the spring-loaded sealing lip should face the lubricant being retained.
  7. Use a seal driver or a socket that contacts the outer diameter evenly. Tap the seal into position without damaging the lip or casing, and seat it to the original depth or the service-manual specification.
  8. Reassemble the removed components using the applicable torque specifications. Check the lubricant level and inspect for leaks before returning the equipment to service.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my oil seal needs replacement?

Common signs include visible oil or grease around the shaft, a falling gearcase lubricant level, or water contamination in the lubricant. Milky-looking gearcase oil can indicate water entry and should be investigated before installing a replacement seal.

Does the direction of the seal matter during installation?

Yes. Many oil seals have a working side and must be installed in a specified direction. The spring-loaded lip normally faces the lubricant being retained, but the applicable service manual and the original seal arrangement should take priority.

Can I reuse an oil seal after removing it?

No. Oil seals are normally single-use components. Removal can deform or damage the sealing lip and casing, so a new seal should be installed.

What kind of lubricant should I use for installation?

Use a lubricant compatible with the seal material and the application. A suitable marine-grade grease or the lubricant specified by the engine or drive manufacturer can help protect the sealing lip during initial operation.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement oil seal. It is not an original Johnson, Evinrude, OMC, Sierra, GLM, or Mallory component.

How should I confirm fitment?

Compare the original seal’s reference number, outside diameter, inside diameter, width, sealing direction, and installation location. Model and application information should also be checked against the applicable service documentation.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify the application, reference numbers, dimensions, and original seal configuration before ordering.
  • Do not operate equipment if the gearcase or drive shows lubricant loss or water contamination.
  • Use appropriate lifting, blocking, and personal protective equipment when working on an outboard or sterndrive.
  • Professional installation is recommended when access requires removal of the gearcase, shaft, or other major components.
