Installation Notes
- Close the seacock (water intake valve) and disconnect the battery before starting.
- Locate the sea water pump assembly on the engine. Loosen hose clamps and remove the inlet and outlet hoses, noting their orientation.
- Unscrew the bolts holding the pump housing cover. You may need to gently tap the cover to break the seal.
- Carefully withdraw the old impeller. A pair of pliers can be used, but be careful not to gouge the housing. Note the direction the blades are bent.
- Clean any debris from the pump housing and inspect the interior surface for scoring or deep scratches. Replace the pump if damage is severe.
- Lightly lubricate the new O-rings and the inside of the pump housing with a water-resistant marine grease or soap.
- Install the new O-rings into their grooves on the pump body and/or cover.
- Insert the new impeller into the housing. Squeeze the blades together and twist the impeller in the direction of engine rotation to fold the blades correctly.
- Re-install the pump cover, ensuring it is seated correctly. Tighten the bolts evenly in a star pattern to the manufacturer-specified torque.
- Reconnect the hoses, open the seacock, and start the engine. Check immediately for leaks and confirm water is flowing from the exhaust outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Does this impeller fit my specific MerCruiser Bravo model?
This impeller fits Bravo I, II, and III drives from 1999 and up with plastic sea water pump housings. It is designed for pumps using a "D" shaped hub. It will NOT fit newer Bravo drives with brass housings or the 496 (8.1L) engine, which use an impeller with two flat sides. Always verify your pump's housing and hub type before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing impeller?
Common signs include the engine running hotter than normal, especially at idle or low speeds; a weak or non-existent stream of water from the exhaust outlets; and, upon inspection, visible cracks, stiffness, or missing blades on the old impeller.
How often should I replace my sea water pump impeller?
As a crucial part of preventative maintenance, we recommend inspecting your impeller annually and replacing it every 1 to 2 years (or 100-200 engine hours), whichever comes first. Usage in saltwater or silty/sandy conditions may require more frequent replacement.
Are the required O-rings included with the impeller?
Yes, this kit is a complete set that includes the impeller and both required O-rings (equivalent to parts 25-33465 and 25-94288) for a full replacement service.
Is this an OEM part or an aftermarket one?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials and manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, with batch-inspections for consistency.
What are the shipping speed and cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options will appear at checkout where available for your location.
What is the warranty and return policy?
This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If you encounter an issue, please contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for items that are unused and in their original condition. See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
