Troubleshooting & FAQ
How much of my original skeg is needed for installation?
You need approximately 2 to 3 inches of the original skeg remaining. The guard is designed to bolt onto this remaining section for structural support.
How do I choose the correct model (27211, 27061, or 27341)?
Refer to the "Engine & Model Compatibility" table. Model 27211 generally fits larger HP engines with 4.8" gearcases, model 27061 fits mid-range engines with 4.75" torpedo gearcases, and model 27341 is for smaller 40-60 HP engines. Always match your engine's HP, year, and gearcase notes.
What is the purpose of the drain hole?
The drain hole at the bottom allows water to escape, preventing it from getting trapped inside the guard. This is critical for preventing corrosion, mineral buildup, and potential damage from freezing water in colder climates.
What are the signs that I need a skeg guard?
Common signs include visible damage to your skeg such as cracks, chips, or a bent profile from hitting submerged objects. A skeg guard can repair this damage and prevent future issues. It's also a great preventative measure even if your skeg is currently undamaged.
