Installation Notes
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool completely. Disconnect the boat's battery for safety.
- Work on one spark plug wire at a time to avoid mixing up cylinder connections.
- Gently twist and pull the boot to remove the old wire from the spark plug. Then, disconnect the other end from the ignition coil.
- Compare the new wire to the old one. If the new wire is longer, carefully trim it to the correct length with a quality wire cutting tool.
- Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of both boots on the new wire to ensure a good seal and prevent corrosion.
- Firmly press the new wire's boot onto the spark plug until it clicks into place. Connect the other end to the corresponding terminal on the ignition coil.
- Repeat the process for the remaining wires, ensuring each is routed correctly and secured away from hot or moving parts.
- Once all wires are replaced, reconnect the battery, start the engine, and check for smooth operation.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if I need to replace my spark plug wires?
Signs of failing spark plug wires include rough idling, engine misfires (especially under load), increased fuel consumption, or visible damage like cracks, burns, or corrosion on the wires and boots.
Do I need to trim these wires?
These wires are 6 inches long, which fits a wide range of V4-V6 Crossflow engines. However, depending on your specific model and wire routing, you may need to trim them to the exact length of your original wires for a perfect fit. Always compare the new wire to the old one before installing.
What is the difference between these and OEM wires?
Our aftermarket wires are designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications for electrical performance and durability. They use a high-quality silicone jacket and stainless steel conductors, similar to OEM parts, but are available at a more competitive price.
Can I install just one wire?
While you can replace just a single failed wire, it is best practice to replace all spark plug wires at the same time. This ensures consistent performance, resistance, and age across all cylinders, preventing future issues.
What kind of grease should I use on the boots?
Use a dielectric grease (also known as tune-up grease or silicone paste) inside the spark plug and coil boots. This protects against moisture and arcing while making future removal easier. Do not use petroleum-based grease.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
