- Attach the new anodes using the included hardware. Do not use a thread-locking compound, as it can interfere with electrical conductivity.
- Tighten the mounting bolts securely to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications. Do not over-tighten.
- Never paint anodes or the mounting surface, as this will render them ineffective.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this anode kit will fit my Volvo drive?
This kit is specifically for Volvo Penta 290 series drives. The best way to confirm fitment is to check your drive's model number and, if possible, compare your existing anodes to the part numbers listed in the package contents (00703AL, 00708AL, 00717AL).
Why use an aluminum anode instead of zinc?
Aluminum alloy anodes are more effective than traditional zinc anodes in brackish (mixed salt and fresh) water and also perform exceptionally well in saltwater. They offer a broader range of protection in varied salinity environments. The standard zinc version of this kit is Tecnoseal KITVOLVO290.
How often should these anodes be replaced?
Anodes should be inspected regularly (e.g., every few months or at each haul-out) and replaced when they are approximately 50-60% consumed. The replacement interval can vary greatly based on water salinity, temperature, and electrical activity from nearby boats or stray dock currents.
What are the signs that my anodes need replacing?
A depleted anode will be visibly eroded, pitted, or significantly reduced in size. If you notice accelerated corrosion on the drive unit itself, such as bubbling paint or the formation of white, powdery deposits on metal parts, it is a critical sign that the anodes are no longer working and must be replaced immediately.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
