  3. Remove the bolts securing the thermostat cover. You may need to gently tap the cover to break the seal.
  4. Note the orientation of the old thermostat before removing it from the housing.
  5. Clean the mating surfaces of the housing and cover, removing all old gasket material.
  6. Install the new thermostat in the correct orientation. Place the new gasket and seals in position.
  7. Reinstall the thermostat cover and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque. Do not overtighten.
  8. Reconnect the battery, refill coolant if necessary, and check for leaks after starting the engine.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my outboard thermostat is bad?

Common signs of a faulty thermostat include engine overheating, running too cool (failing to reach operating temperature), or large, erratic temperature fluctuations. A thermostat stuck open will prevent the engine from warming up, while one stuck closed will cause it to overheat quickly.

What temperature does this thermostat operate at?

This thermostat is rated for and operates at a nominal temperature of 120°F (50°C), ensuring your engine runs in the optimal range for performance and efficiency.

Can I install this kit myself?

Yes, this kit is designed for direct replacement and can be installed by individuals with moderate mechanical skill. However, if you are not comfortable with the procedure, professional installation is always recommended.

Is this part the same as the original OEM part?

This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component. It is designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications for fit, form, and function, providing a reliable alternative at a better value.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
