Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my thermostat is failing?

Common signs of a faulty thermostat include the engine overheating at low speeds, running too cool at trolling speeds (which can cause poor performance and carbon buildup), or visible coolant leaks from the thermostat housing.

Will this fit my 4-stroke Johnson/Evinrude engine?

This kit is primarily for 2-stroke models, but compatibility has been noted for some 4-stroke HO models from 1994–2001 (9.9-15 HP). Always verify your specific OEM part number before ordering.

What is the operating temperature of this thermostat?

This thermostat is rated to open at approximately 60°C (143°F) to regulate engine temperature.

Is there a difference installing this on a V4 vs. V6 engine?

The general process is the same, but the location and accessibility of the thermostat housing may differ. Some V-block engines have a thermostat for each cylinder bank. Consult your service manual for specific locations.

How often should I replace my outboard's thermostat?

It's good practice to inspect the thermostat as part of your regular cooling system service (e.g., when replacing the water pump impeller), typically every 1-2 years or 100-200 hours, especially if operating in saltwater.

Why are two gaskets included in the kit?

The kit includes two gaskets to ensure a proper seal on both sides of the thermostat within its housing, preventing leaks and ensuring correct water flow.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?
