Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I verify this impeller is the right one for my engine?

The best method is to compare the part number (396725) with your engine's service manual. You can also use the compatibility table on this page as a guide, but always double-check your existing part's dimensions and part number before ordering.

What are signs of a bad or failing impeller?

Common symptoms include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, and reduced engine performance at high RPMs.

How often should I replace my water pump impeller?

As a preventative maintenance item, most manufacturers recommend replacing the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if operating frequently in saltwater, silty, or sandy conditions.

Does this impeller work for both standard and counter-rotating engines?

Yes, this impeller features a bi-directional design, allowing it to function correctly in both standard (clockwise) and counter-rotating (left-hand) lower units.

My new impeller blades are slightly bent out of the box. Is it defective?

No, this is normal. The neoprene blades are flexible and will straighten out and function correctly once installed and spinning inside the pump housing.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
