What’s in the Box

  • 1 × water-pump impeller

The impeller is sold individually. The water-pump housing, gaskets, wear plates, keys and other service components are not included unless separately stated for the specific order.

Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and follow the engine manufacturer's safety procedures.
  2. Place the outboard securely in the service position and remove the lower unit according to the service manual.
  3. Remove the water-pump housing cover and retain the hardware in order.
  4. Remove the old impeller and note the direction in which the blades are set by the driveshaft rotation.
  5. Clean the housing, inspect the wear surfaces and check for scoring, cracks or excessive wear.
  6. Lubricate the new impeller and housing with a suitable water-based lubricant or the lubricant specified by the engine manufacturer. Avoid petroleum products unless expressly approved for the impeller material.
  7. Install the impeller over the drive key or hub arrangement and orient the blades correctly as the housing is fitted.
  8. Reinstall the housing and any required seals or gaskets, then reinstall the lower unit using the manufacturer's torque specifications.
  9. Restore the gearcase lubricant if it was drained and test the engine only with an adequate water supply.
  10. Confirm a strong cooling-water telltale and monitor the engine for overheating before returning it to service.

Use the service manual for your exact engine when removing the lower unit and setting fastener torque. If the housing, wear plate or seals are damaged, replace those components as needed.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm that this impeller fits my outboard?

Confirm the complete engine model number, year, horsepower, stroke and cylinder configuration. Then compare the existing impeller and the applicable OEM or aftermarket reference number with the compatibility information above. If any of these details differ, obtain confirmation from the engine service manual before ordering.

What are the signs of a failing water-pump impeller?

Common signs include overheating at idle or low speed, a weak or absent cooling-water telltale stream, and a temperature warning. Stop operating the engine and inspect the cooling system if any of these symptoms occur.

How often should an outboard impeller be replaced?

Replacement intervals depend on the engine manufacturer's service schedule and operating conditions. Impellers should also be inspected after operation in sandy or debris-filled water, after a long period of storage, or whenever cooling performance declines.

Can this impeller be used in saltwater?

The neoprene material is suitable for normal freshwater and saltwater service when the impeller and complete cooling system are correctly installed and maintained. Flush the engine after saltwater use according to the engine manufacturer's instructions.

Does this listing include the water-pump housing or gaskets?

No. This listing includes one replacement impeller only. The housing, gaskets, wear plates, keys and other water-pump components are sold separately unless specifically included with the order.

Why is my engine still overheating after replacing the impeller?

Inspect the water intake, thermostat, telltale passage, housing, wear plate, seals and cooling passages. A damaged housing, blocked passage, missing key, incorrect blade orientation or restricted water supply can prevent proper cooling even with a new impeller.

Is this an OEM impeller?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement impeller intended for the listed applications and reference numbers. Johnson/Evinrude part numbers are shown only as compatibility references and do not indicate that this replacement is manufactured by Johnson/Evinrude.

How fast is shipping and what does it cost?

Available shipping methods, delivery estimates and shipping charges are shown at checkout and depend on the destination and selected service.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the complete engine model, year, horsepower, stroke and part-number references before purchase.
  • Compare the dimensions and hub arrangement with the original impeller when possible.
  • Do not operate an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • Stop the engine immediately if the cooling-water telltale is weak or absent or if the engine overheats.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended when servicing the lower unit or water-pump assembly.
