Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover.
Drain the lower unit gear oil.
Remove the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard motor.
Unbolt and remove the water pump housing to access the old impeller.
Important: Identify your housing type. This impeller fits both the plastic housing with a metal liner and the older brass housing without a liner. Ensure all mating surfaces are clean.
Remove the old impeller, noting the direction its vanes are bent.
Install the new impeller, rotating the driveshaft clockwise to bend the vanes in the correct direction.
Reassemble the water pump housing with new gaskets (if available) and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
Reinstall the lower unit, refill with gear oil, and reconnect the battery.
Test run the engine with a water supply, ensuring a steady stream of water from the tell-tale port.
