Installation Notes
Generic installation steps are provided below. For a detailed guide specific to your Yamaha outboard, we recommend this technician-led video.
- Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cowling.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain screw to empty the gearcase oil if required by the service procedure.
- Remove the fasteners securing the lower unit to the midsection and carefully lower the unit.
- Locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase and remove its mounting fasteners.
- Lift the housing to expose the old impeller and note the blade orientation and key position.
- Remove the old impeller, clean the housing and wear plate, and install the replacement with the key correctly aligned.
- Apply a light coat of marine grease or suitable lubricant to the inside of the housing, then reinstall the housing while keeping the blades oriented in the direction of rotation.
- Reinstall the lower unit and refill the gearcase lubricant according to the engine service procedure.
- Run the engine only with an appropriate water supply and verify a strong, steady stream from the telltale outlet before returning the engine to service.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if my impeller needs replacing?
Common signs of a worn or damaged impeller include engine overheating at low speed, a weak or absent telltale stream, or visible cracking, brittleness or deformation of the blades. Inspect the impeller whenever the water pump is serviced and replace it if wear or damage is found.
Does this impeller fit every Yamaha 225 HP, 250 HP or 300 HP outboard?
No. The application must match the specific model designation and OEM reference. This listing is associated with F225F, F250D and F300B applications and their listed LF counter-rotation versions. Check the engine identification label and the original impeller before ordering.
Does this impeller include the woodruff key or gaskets?
No. This listing is for the impeller only. The woodruff key, housing gaskets, wear plate and other water-pump service parts are not included unless specifically listed with your order.
Can it be used on counter-rotation engines?
The cataloged application includes listed LF counter-rotation versions associated with the F225F, F250D and F300B model families. Verify the complete engine model and OEM impeller reference before installation; do not rely on horsepower alone.
Is this an OEM part?
This is an aftermarket replacement impeller, not a Yamaha-branded OEM component. Yamaha part number 6CE-44352-00 is provided as an application reference.
Safety & Important Information
- Verify the engine model, stroke, rotation designation and OEM part number before purchase.
- Compare the replacement impeller with the original part, including blade count and dimensions.
- Do not operate the engine without an adequate water supply.
- Professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with lower-unit or water-pump service.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
