Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine has completely cooled.
  2. Place the outboard in neutral and remove the lower unit (gearcase) bolts.
  3. Carefully separate the lower unit from the upper engine housing.
  4. Unbolt and remove the water pump housing cover to expose the old impeller.
  5. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller's vanes before removal.
  6. Clean the impeller housing and inspect the wear plate for scoring or damage.
  7. Install the new impeller, turning the driveshaft clockwise to bend the vanes into the correct orientation.
  8. Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the housing.
  9. Reinstall the water pump housing and torque its bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  10. Reassemble the lower unit to the engine, ensuring the shift shaft and water tube align.
  11. Once assembled, test the engine in water to confirm a strong tell-tale stream.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my impeller is failing?

The most common signs are a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, or a noticeable drop in water pressure. During inspection, look for cracked, brittle, or worn-down rubber vanes.

What is the recommended replacement interval?

For optimal engine protection, it is best practice to replace the water pump impeller annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first, especially for boats used in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.

Will this fit my 8HP Yamaha or 20HP Honda?

While this part is listed as compatible with certain 8-20 HP models, fitment can vary by year and specific engine series. The best way to ensure a match is to verify that your original impeller's part number is listed in our Part Number Matrix (e.g., 63V-44352-01-00 for Yamaha or 19210-ZW9-A32 for Honda).

Is there a difference between the "-01-00" and "-00" Yamaha suffixes?

Typically, the final "-00" in a Yamaha part number refers to the packaging or kit version and does not change the core component. This impeller is a direct replacement for both 63V-44352-01-00 and 63V-44352-00.

Can I install this part myself?

While installation is possible for those with strong mechanical skills and the correct tools, we recommend professional installation. An improperly installed impeller can lead to severe engine damage from overheating.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
