Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and spark-plug leads before beginning service.
  2. Place the outboard in neutral and remove the lower-unit or gearcase bolts.
  3. Lower the gearcase carefully to access the water-pump housing.
  4. Remove the water-pump housing bolts and lift the housing to expose the impeller.
  5. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller vanes before removal.
  6. Remove the old impeller and key. Clean the mating surfaces and inspect the housing, wear plate and related seals or gaskets.
  7. Install the supplied key in the driveshaft keyway.
  8. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft while rotating it in the operating direction so the vanes bend correctly.
  9. Reinstall the water-pump housing with appropriate new gaskets or seals and tighten the fasteners to the engine manufacturer’s specified torque.
  10. Reattach the lower unit, ensuring correct driveshaft and shift-shaft alignment.
  11. Test the engine with an adequate water supply, using flushing muffs or an appropriate in-water test, and confirm a strong, steady tell-tale stream.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this impeller will fit my engine?

Check the Engine & Model Compatibility table, then compare your engine’s exact model, year, serial range and existing part number with the references in the Part Number Matrix. For Mercury and Mariner applications, verify the complete model information because 9.9 HP and 15 HP engines can use different components.

What are the signs of a failing water-pump impeller?

Common symptoms include a weak or intermittent tell-tale stream, an overheating alarm, excessive engine temperature or visible steam. Brittle, cracked, deformed or missing vanes are also signs that the impeller should be replaced.

How often should I replace an outboard impeller?

Replacement intervals depend on engine use and operating conditions. Many owners replace an impeller periodically as preventative maintenance, with more frequent inspection or replacement when the engine is used in saltwater or sandy or silty conditions. Always follow the engine manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations.

Why did my new impeller become damaged soon after installation?

Running the engine without an adequate water supply can damage neoprene vanes within seconds. Premature failure can also result from debris, a damaged pump housing or wear plate, incorrect vane orientation, a missing key or incorrect installation.

Is this part identical to the original OEM version?

This is an aftermarket replacement designed for fit, form and function on the listed applications. It is not an OEM-branded component.

Does this impeller fit newer Yamaha 4-stroke models after 2000?

The listed Yamaha 4-stroke applications are F9.9 and F15 models up to 2000. Newer models may use a different impeller, so confirm the exact model, year, serial range and part number before ordering.

Is this an OEM or aftermarket part?

This listing is for an aftermarket replacement. It is intended to provide comparable fit and function for the listed applications.

What are the shipping and delivery details?

Typical transit is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free, and expedited options may be available at checkout depending on destination.

What are the warranty and return terms?

This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. Returns are accepted within the applicable standard return window when the item is unused and in its original condition. Contact support for return instructions.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the engine model, year, serial range, dimensions and reference part number before ordering.
  • Compare the replacement with the original impeller and confirm the keyway configuration before installation.
  • Never run an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended when servicing the lower unit or water-pump assembly.
