Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?
This kit is for specific Mercury/Mariner 135HP, 150HP, and select 75-115HP 4-Stroke EFI models. The most reliable method is to match your engine's required part number to 46-8M0061040. Always check the compatibility table and your original part before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Key symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or intermittent water stream from the "telltale" outlet, or in severe cases, a complete lack of water discharge, which can quickly lead to engine damage.
How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?
For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This helps prevent unexpected cooling system failures.
Is this a difficult part to install?
Installation requires removing the lower unit (gearcase), which can be complex. While it is manageable for individuals with strong mechanical skills and the right tools, we recommend professional installation to ensure proper sealing and function, protecting your engine from overheating.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
