Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this impeller kit fits my engine?

This kit is specifically for Mercury/Mariner 3.5–9.8 HP 2-Stroke outboards (1975–1986). The most reliable way to confirm fitment is by matching your engine's serial number to the ranges listed in the compatibility table.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include a weak or non-existent water stream from the tell-tale port, engine overheating alarms, and reduced engine performance. Visible signs on the old impeller include cracked, brittle, or missing blades.

How often should I replace my water pump impeller?

As a general maintenance rule, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy or silty water.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Our parts are manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility and batch-inspected for consistency.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images and specifications against your original part before purchase. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not install.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component.
