Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase drain/fill screws to drain the lubricant.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper leg. Carefully separate the lower unit.
- Unbolt and remove the old water pump housing assembly. Note the orientation of the old impeller vanes.
- Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces, removing any old gasket material or sealant.
- Install the new gaskets, face plate, impeller (with vanes oriented correctly), and housing. Lubricate new components with a marine-safe grease.
- Re-install the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are properly aligned.
- Re-fill the gearcase with the correct type and amount of lubricant.
- Before starting the engine, use a flushing attachment to supply water to the lower unit and check for a strong water stream from the tell-tale outlet.
