Installation Notes
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear case oil drain screw to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gear case) to the midsection.
- Carefully lower and remove the gear case from the driveshaft housing.
- Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing cover and lift it to expose the impeller.
- Take note of the old impeller's vane direction before removing it along with the woodruff key.
- Clean the housing interior and inspect for scoring or warping. Replace if damaged.
- Install the new gasket, wear plate, woodruff key, and impeller. Turn the driveshaft clockwise to seat the vanes correctly.
- Reinstall the housing and tighten bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Re-install the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft and water tube align properly.
- Refill the gear case with fresh marine gear oil and tighten the drain screw.
- Once assembled, test the engine using a water supply to confirm the tell-tale stream is strong.
