Installation Notes

Disconnect the spark plug wires and shift the outboard into neutral.
Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain/fill plugs to drain the gear lube.
Remove the bolts connecting the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper driveshaft housing.
Carefully lower the gearcase away from the engine.
Unbolt and remove the water pump housing to access the old impeller, wear plate, and gaskets.
Clean all surfaces and inspect the housing for wear, cracks, or warping. Replace if damaged.
Install the new gasket, wear plate, key, and impeller. Ensure the impeller vanes are oriented correctly (typically clockwise).
Lubricate the inside of the housing and reinstall it, torquing bolts to manufacturer specifications.
Re-install the lower unit, ensuring the water tube, driveshaft, and shift shaft align correctly.
Refill the lower unit with fresh gear lube from the bottom plug until it flows from the top hole. Re-insert and tighten plugs.
Reconnect spark plug wires. Test run the engine using a flush attachment ("muffs") or in the water, ensuring a steady stream of water exits the tell-tale port.
