- Take out the old impeller, wear plate, and any gaskets. Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller's vanes.
- Thoroughly clean all surfaces of the pump housing and wear plate, removing any old gasket material or corrosion.
- Install the new components in reverse order: gasket, plate, impeller key, and new impeller.
- Lubricate the new impeller and the inside of the housing with a suitable marine grease.
- Slide the housing over the new impeller, turning the driveshaft clockwise to help seat the vanes correctly.
- Secure the housing with its bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reinstall the lower unit, carefully aligning the driveshaft splines and water tube.
- Reconnect the shift linkage and battery, then test the engine with a reliable water source (like muffs) to confirm a strong tell-tale stream.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include a weak or non-existent water stream from the engine's tell-tale port, frequent engine overheating alarms, and visible steam coming from the exhaust. Any of these signs warrant an immediate inspection of the cooling system.
How often should I replace the impeller?
For preventative maintenance, most marine mechanics and engine manufacturers recommend replacing the impeller every 1 to 2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This interval should be shorter if you frequently operate in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
Can I install this impeller kit myself?
While installation is straightforward for individuals with solid mechanical experience, it involves removing the lower unit (gearcase). If you are not familiar with this process, we recommend professional installation to ensure everything is assembled correctly and to avoid potential engine damage.
What is the difference between this and an OEM part?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component. It is built to OEM-level specifications using comparable materials and manufactured in an ISO 9002 certified facility. Each batch is inspected for quality and consistency.
What is your shipping speed and cost?
We ship worldwide quickly, with typical transit times of 5–15 days for most regions. Standard shipping is free for most orders, and expedited options are available at checkout where applicable.
What is the warranty and return policy?
This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. If an issue arises, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for items that are unused and in their original condition. See our full policy page or reach out for instructions.
Safety & Important Info
- Verify images and specifications against your original part before purchase. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not install the part.
- This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component.
- Professional installation is strongly recommended for safety, performance, and to prevent damage to your engine.
