Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this impeller fits my outboard?
The best way to ensure compatibility is to verify your engine's model and year against our compatibility table. You can also compare your old impeller's part number to our cross-reference list. If you're still unsure, please contact us with your engine's serial number.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common signs include a weak or nonexistent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, an engine temperature alarm, or the engine overheating. Reduced performance can also be an indicator. You may also find broken or brittle impeller blades during inspection.
How often should I replace the impeller?
As a general preventative maintenance rule, it is recommended to inspect your water pump impeller annually and replace it every 1–2 years or every 100–200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.
Is this impeller difficult to install?
Installation is straightforward for those with mechanical experience and the correct tools. It involves removing the lower unit. If you are not comfortable performing this service, we strongly recommend professional installation to ensure correct assembly and function.
Is the included woodruff key important?
Yes, the woodruff key is crucial. It locks the impeller to the driveshaft, ensuring it spins with the shaft to pump water. Always use the new key provided in the kit and never reuse the old one.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
