Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this kit fits my specific Yamaha outboard?
This kit is designed for a broad range of V6 models from 150HP to 300HP. The best way to confirm fitment is to check your engine's OEM part number against the ones listed in our Part Number Matrix (61A-W0078-A1/A2/A3-00). You can also review the Engine & Model Compatibility table, but always cross-reference the part number for accuracy.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common signs include an engine that is overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent "telltale" water stream, or a dry, cracked, or brittle impeller upon inspection. Reduced cooling performance can cause severe engine damage, so it's critical to address these symptoms immediately.
How often should the water pump impeller be replaced?
As a general maintenance rule, it is recommended to inspect your water pump impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you operate frequently in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
Is any special grease needed for installation?
Yes, applying a light coat of marine-grade waterproof grease or dish soap to the inside of the pump cup and on the impeller vanes can ease installation and provide a better initial seal. Do not use petroleum-based grease, which can damage the rubber.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
