Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and shift linkage before beginning work.
- Remove the lower unit mounting bolts and carefully lower the gearcase from the engine.
- Unbolt and remove the water pump housing to access the impeller.
- Remove the old impeller, wear plate, and all associated gaskets. Note the orientation of the impeller vanes.
- Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces on the gearcase and housing, removing any old gasket material or corrosion.
- Install the new cartridge insert, gaskets, and outer plate from the kit.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, rotating it in the direction of engine operation to seat the vanes correctly.
- Lightly grease the inside of the housing and reinstall it, torquing the bolts to manufacturer specifications.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft align properly.
- Secure all bolts, reconnect the linkage, and test the engine on a water supply to verify a strong telltale stream.
