Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cowling.
  2. Locate and unbolt the lower unit (gearcase) from the engine's midsection.
  3. Carefully lower the gearcase to access the water pump assembly on top of the driveshaft.
  4. Remove the bolts securing the water pump housing cover and lift it off.
  5. Take note of the component order, then remove the old impeller, wear plate, gaskets, and seals.
  6. Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, ensuring they are free of old gasket material and corrosion.
  7. Install the new components from the kit in the reverse order of removal.
  8. Apply a light coat of marine grease to the new impeller and o-rings before installing them in the housing.
  9. Reassemble the water pump housing and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  10. Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft are correctly aligned.
  11. Reconnect the battery and test the engine using a water supply (flushing muffs) to verify proper water flow from the tell-tale port.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my water pump needs to be replaced?

Common signs of a failing water pump include a weak or intermittent water stream from the "tell-tale" port, engine overheating alarms at idle or low speed, and visible damage, cracking, or brittleness of the old impeller upon inspection.

How often should I service my Yamaha V8's water pump?

For high-performance outboards like the Yamaha V8 series, it is recommended to inspect the water pump annually and replace the impeller and gaskets every 1-2 years or 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Service intervals should be shorter for engines used primarily in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.

Does this kit include the entire water pump housing?

No, this is a repair kit containing the internal wear-and-tear components (impeller, gaskets, plate, seals). It is designed to be installed into your existing water pump housing, Yamaha P/N 6AW-44311-01-00, which must be purchased separately if your original housing is damaged.

Is special grease needed for installation?

Yes, we strongly recommend applying a high-quality marine grease to the interior of the pump housing and a light coating on the new impeller. This prevents damage during the first dry startup and helps ensure a proper seal.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
