Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this anode will fit my engine?
First, compare your old part to our images and specs. Second, check the compatibility tables provided for your engine's make, model, and year. Finally, you can cross-reference your existing part number with those in the Part Number Matrix to ensure it is a direct equivalent.
What is the 'trim tab' function for?
Besides protecting against corrosion, the tab acts as a small rudder to counteract propeller torque steer. This helps the boat track straight without requiring constant steering wheel correction. You may need to adjust its angle slightly for optimal handling.
Can I use this aluminum anode in salt water?
Yes. This modern aluminum alloy anode is specifically designed for excellent performance in all water types—salt, brackish, and fresh. It offers broader, more effective protection compared to traditional zinc anodes, which are only suitable for salt water.
How often should I replace my trim tab anode?
Inspect your anodes at least once a year or every 50-100 hours of operation. You must replace the anode when it is approximately 50-60% eroded to maintain continuous galvanic protection for your engine.
What are the signs of a failing or depleted anode?
Visible signs include rapid or uneven corrosion, significant pitting, or the anode being almost completely gone. Functionally, you may notice new corrosion or paint blistering on other underwater metal components like your gearcase or propeller.
Why is it important to use the new bolt?
Using the new, clean mounting bolt is critical. An old, dirty, or corroded bolt can impede the electrical connection between the anode and the engine, rendering the anode ineffective at protecting your expensive components.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
