- Locate the existing fuel filter along the fuel line between the fuel tank and the engine.
- Place a rag or container under the filter to catch any spilled fuel.
- Carefully loosen the clamps securing the fuel hoses to both ends of the old filter.
- Gently twist and pull the hoses off the filter. Be prepared for minor fuel leakage.
- Note the fuel flow direction arrow on the new filter. It must point from the fuel tank towards the engine.
- Connect the fuel hoses to the correct ends of the new filter and secure them firmly with the clamps.
- Open the fuel supply valve, prime the engine if necessary, and inspect carefully for any leaks before starting.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this filter fits my specific Honda outboard?
Check the compatibility table on this page. Your engine model (e.g., BF9.9D, BF50D) should be listed. You can also verify by cross-referencing your existing filter's part number with the ones listed in our Part Number Matrix, such as 16910-ZV4-015.
What are signs that my fuel filter needs replacement?
Common symptoms of a clogged filter include engine hesitation, sputtering, difficulty starting, rough idling, or a noticeable loss of power, especially at higher RPMs.
How often should this fuel filter be replaced?
As a general rule, replace your outboard fuel filter annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Refer to your Honda service manual for the specific maintenance interval for your model.
Is there a correct orientation for installation?
Yes. Inline fuel filters are directional. Look for an arrow printed on the filter housing; this arrow must point in the direction of fuel flow (from the fuel tank towards the engine).
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
Shipping speed & cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
Warranty & returns?
Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
