Installation Notes
- Close the water intake seacock to prevent water from entering the vessel.
- Access the raw water pump and remove the cover plate screws to expose the old impeller.
- Remove the old impeller using pliers or an impeller puller tool. Note the direction the blades are bent.
- Clean the pump housing interior and the cover plate, ensuring the sealing surfaces are free of old gasket material or debris.
- Place the new gasket on the pump body.
- Apply the supplied lubricant (or a small amount of dish soap) to the inside of the pump housing and onto the new impeller.
- Insert the new impeller, bending the blades in the same direction as the old one was installed. Squeeze the blades and rotate the impeller shaft to ease insertion.
- Reinstall the cover plate and tighten the screws evenly in a crisscross pattern. Do not overtighten.
- Re-open the water intake seacock before starting the engine.
- Once the engine is started, check for leaks around the pump cover immediately.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller fits my specific engine?
The best way is to match your old part number to one listed in our Part Number Matrix. If you don't have the old part number, use the Engine & Model Compatibility tables. Pay close attention to model years and serial number breaks, as manufacturers often change parts mid-cycle.
What is the difference between MC97 neoprene and standard rubber?
MC97 is a specialized neoprene compound designed for marine use that offers superior resistance to heat, abrasion, and chemicals compared to standard neoprene. This results in a longer operational life, especially in demanding raw water cooling applications.
How often should I replace my raw water pump impeller?
As a general rule, impellers should be inspected annually and replaced every 1-2 years or every 100-200 engine hours, whichever comes first. However, if you operate in silty or sandy water, more frequent replacement may be necessary.
What are the signs of a failing impeller?
Common signs include a gradual increase in engine operating temperature, reduced water flow from the exhaust outlet, visible cracks on the impeller blades (during inspection), and brittle or permanently bent blades.
Can I run the pump dry with this impeller?
No. Never run a raw water pump dry. The impeller requires water for lubrication. Running it dry for even a short period can cause overheating and rapid destruction of the impeller blades, leading to pump failure and potential engine damage.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
Shipping speed & cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
Warranty & returns?
Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Safety & Important Info
- Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
