Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know this impeller will fit my engine?
This impeller is designed for specific Johnson/Evinrude models: 35 HP (1958–1959), 40 HP (1960–1970), and 50/55 HP (1971–1978). Always cross-reference the OEM and aftermarket part numbers in our Part Number Matrix and check your engine's service manual to confirm compatibility before ordering.
What are the signs of a worn-out or failing impeller?
Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent stream of water from the tell-tale port, and a dry, cracked, or deformed appearance of the old impeller's blades upon inspection.
How often should an outboard impeller be replaced?
For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect your impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, depending on usage conditions (e.g., more frequently in saltwater or sandy/silty water).
What is the benefit of a neoprene rubber impeller with a brass hub?
Marine-grade neoprene rubber offers excellent resistance to heat, abrasion, and saltwater degradation. The brass hub provides a durable, corrosion-resistant connection to the driveshaft, preventing slippage and ensuring reliable performance.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
