Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I find out if this impeller fits my engine?
This impeller is made for select Mercury and Mariner 2-stroke outboards from 10–40 HP, especially vintage models. To confirm fitment, check your engine model or serial number against the compatibility table or match your existing part number to one of the cross-references listed (e.g., 47-20813, 18-3008).
What are the signs of a faulty water pump impeller?
A failing impeller typically causes the engine to overheat. Other signs include a weak or nonexistent water stream from the "tell-tale" indicator outlet, or steam coming from the exhaust.
What is the recommended replacement interval for this part?
As a general rule, impellers should be inspected annually and replaced every 1-2 years or after every 100 hours of use. If you boat in saltwater or silty conditions, more frequent replacement is advised to prevent cooling system failure.
What causes an impeller to fail prematurely?
The most common cause of immediate failure is running the engine out of water, which instantly burns the rubber. Other causes include sucking up sand or debris, chemical degradation from fuel/oil, and old age, which makes the rubber brittle and prone to cracking.
OEM vs. Aftermarket: What's the difference?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Our parts are manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility and are batch-inspected for quality and consistency.
How fast is shipping and what does it cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
What is the warranty and return policy?
Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
