Installation Notes
This seal is installed where the exhaust Y-pipe passes through the gimbal housing on the transom assembly. Proper seating is critical to prevent exhaust and water leaks into the bilge. Ensure the surfaces are clean and free of old material before installing the new seal. Professional installation is recommended, especially if you are unfamiliar with sterndrive service procedures.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this exhaust seal needs replacing?
Signs of a failed gimbal exhaust seal include water leaking into the bilge area, especially when the engine is running, an unusually loud exhaust note, or visible exhaust fumes inside the engine compartment. Corrosion or damage to the exhaust Y-pipe or gimbal housing can also indicate a leak.
Will this fit my specific Alpha One drive?
This seal fits Alpha One Generation I (1983-1990) and Generation II (1991 and up) drives. Please consult the compatibility table to confirm your drive and engine model are listed before ordering.
How often should this seal be replaced?
There is no fixed service interval, but the seal should be inspected whenever the sterndrive is removed for service and replaced as a preventative measure or if any signs of wear, hardening, or cracking are present.
Is any special tool required for installation?
While no highly specialized tools are required, installation requires removing the sterndrive from the transom assembly. This process involves standard marine mechanic tools and knowledge of sterndrive systems. Refer to your official service manual for detailed instructions.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
