Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting.
  2. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine.
  3. Carefully lower the gearcase to expose the water pump assembly on the driveshaft.
  4. Remove the water pump housing bolts and slide the housing off the driveshaft.
  5. Take note of the old impeller's orientation, then remove it and the drive key.
  6. Inspect the pump housing, wear plate, and seals for scoring or damage. Replace if necessary.
  7. Lightly grease the new impeller and the inside of the housing with marine grease.
  8. Install the new key and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft.
  9. Align the impeller vanes with the housing and slide it down while turning the driveshaft clockwise.
  10. Reinstall the housing, reassemble the gearcase to the engine, and torque all bolts to specification.
  11. Reconnect the battery and test the engine in water to verify strong water flow from the telltale outlet.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What's the difference between the 19210-ZV4-013 and 19210-ZV4-651 impellers?

The primary difference is the keyway type. Part 19210-ZV4-013 uses a flat keyway, common in pre-1997 and specific 1997 models. Part 19210-ZV4-651 uses a normal (or 'D-shaped') keyway, found in most 1997–2002 models. Please verify your exact model and serial number in our compatibility table.

How can I identify the correct impeller for my engine?

Check your engine's model and serial number. The compatibility table on this page lists the specific Honda models, years, and corresponding OEM part numbers. Pre-1997 models and certain 1997 serial number ranges use the flat keyway impeller (19210-ZV4-013), while later models use the normal keyway (19210-ZV4-651). When in doubt, visual comparison to your old part is recommended.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or intermittent water stream from the "telltale" outlet, or an alarm from the engine's temperature sensor. A dry, cracked, or brittle impeller should be replaced immediately, even if it has not failed completely.

How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?

For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1 to 2 years, or every 100-200 hours of use. Replacement intervals should be shorter for boats operated in saltwater or in water with heavy sediment.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
