Installation Notes
- Disconnect the spark plug leads and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear lube drain screw to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper leg of the outboard.
- Carefully separate the lower unit from the driveshaft housing. Be mindful of the shift shaft.
- Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing cover and lift it off.
- Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft, removing the Woodruff key. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller vanes.
- Clean any debris, salt, or corrosion from the housing, base plate, and driveshaft.
- Install the new Woodruff key, then slide the new impeller onto the shaft while turning the driveshaft clockwise to seat the vanes correctly.
- Install the new cartridge, plate, and seals from the kit.
- Re-install the water pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reattach the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned. Tighten bolts to spec.
- Refill the lower unit with fresh gear lube before starting the engine.
