- Place a suitable drain pan beneath the existing oil filter to catch any spills.
- Using an oil filter wrench, turn the old filter counter-clockwise to loosen and remove it.
- Wipe the filter mounting base on the engine clean with a lint-free rag.
- Lightly lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with a thin film of clean engine oil.
- Carefully thread the new filter onto the mounting base. Spin it on by hand until the gasket makes contact.
- Tighten the filter an additional 3/4 to one full turn by hand. Do not use a wrench or overtighten.
- After installation, top off the engine oil, run the engine for a minute, and inspect for any leaks around the filter.
