Troubleshooting & FAQ
Will this fit my MerCruiser Alpha One Gen II?
Yes, this kit is compatible with Alpha One Gen II stern drives with a serial number of D494569 and above, manufactured from 1991 and newer.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and a low water pressure alarm or gauge reading.
How often should I replace my impeller?
As a general maintenance guideline, impellers should be inspected annually and replaced every 1-2 years or 200-300 operating hours, whichever comes first. Consult your engine's service manual for specific recommendations.
Is the impeller material suitable for salt water?
Yes, the impeller is made from a high-quality neoprene rubber compound that is specifically designed for durable and long-lasting performance in both freshwater and saltwater marine environments.
Why are there multiple gaskets in the kit?
The kit is designed to fit a wide variety of engine models, which may have slightly different water pump housing designs. The included gaskets ensure you have the correct one for your specific application.
What is the main difference between this and an OEM kit?
This is an aftermarket part built to meet or exceed OEM specifications using comparable, high-quality materials. It offers a reliable and cost-effective alternative to brand-name parts without sacrificing performance or durability.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
