Installation Notes
- Locate the existing gear lube reservoir fitting on the inner side of the transom shield.
- Place an oil-absorbent pad or container beneath the fitting to catch any drips.
- Carefully disconnect the lube hose from the quick-connect fitting.
- Remove the E-clip or other retaining fastener holding the old fitting in place.
- Remove the old fitting assembly from the transom shield.
- Clean the mounting surface and ensure it is free of debris.
- Install the new O-rings on the new fitting and insert it into the transom shield.
- Secure the new fitting using the original (or a new) E-clip.
- Firmly press the gear lube hose onto the quick-connect port until it clicks into place.
- Check the gear lube reservoir level and top off if necessary. Monitor for leaks before and after operation.

How do I know if this fitting is leaking?
A common sign of failure is a visible leak of gear lube (a thick, dark oil) around the fitting on the transom, either inside or outside the boat. A constantly dropping level in the gear lube reservoir without any other visible leaks is also a strong indicator that this fitting may need replacement.
Is the E-clip (53-87843) always necessary for installation?
The E-clip is the standard method for securing this fitting. While you may be able to reuse your original clip, they are small and easily lost or damaged during removal. We recommend having a new one on hand to ensure a secure installation.
My old part number is 22-861150A1. Will this T02 part fit?
Yes. Part number 22-861150T02 is the current direct replacement for older versions like 22-861150A1 and 22-861150A2. They are functionally identical and share the same fitment for the specified MerCruiser models.
What is the difference between this 90-degree fitting and a straight one?
