Installation Notes
- Position a drain pan under the lower unit.
- Remove both the upper (vent) and lower (drain) gearcase plugs using a large flathead screwdriver.
- Allow the old gear lube to drain completely. Inspect the old lube for excessive metal shavings or a milky appearance (indicating water intrusion).
- Clean the plug threads on the gearcase.
- Install the new magnetic drain plug with its seal in the lower drain hole. Tighten until snug; do not overtighten.
- Fill the gearcase with the recommended lubricant through the upper vent hole until fluid begins to run out.
- Reinstall the upper vent plug with a new seal.
- Clean any spilled lubricant and check for leaks after a short period.

How does the magnetic plug work?
The plug has a powerful magnet embedded in its tip. As gear lube circulates, any ferrous metal particles (from normal gear wear) are captured by the magnet, preventing them from causing further wear to bearings, shafts, and gears.
Will this fit my specific engine model and year?
This plug fits all Mercury/Mariner outboards and MerCruiser sterndrives that use a 3/8-16 UNC threaded plug. This includes most models except the Verado series. Please check your service manual or existing plug to confirm the thread size.
Can I reuse the seal/washer?
