Installation Notes

  1. Tilt the sterndrive to the full "up" position and engage the trailer lock for safety.
  2. Place an absorbent mat under the hydraulic pump and hose connections to catch fluid spills.
  3. Carefully disconnect the old hoses from the trim cylinders and connector block, noting the routing of each one.
  4. Clean all fitting surfaces meticulously before installing the new hoses.
  5. Install the new hoses, ensuring they follow the original routing and are not kinked, twisted, or rubbing against other components.
  6. Tighten all fittings to the manufacturer-specified torque. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the fittings.
  7. Refill the hydraulic trim fluid reservoir with the OEM-recommended fluid.
  8. Cycle the trim system completely up and down 5-10 times to bleed all air from the system.
  9. Check for any leaks at all connections and top off the fluid level as needed.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Will this kit fit my specific MerCruiser model?

This kit is designed for a wide range of MerCruiser drives, including Alpha One (Gen 1 & 2), R, MR, and Bravo (1, 2, 3) models. Please review the detailed compatibility table and cross-reference your OEM part number to ensure a perfect fit.

How do I know if my hydraulic hoses need replacing?

Common signs of failure include visible cracks, bulges, abrasions on the hose casing, or active fluid leaks around fittings. A spongy or slow-to-respond trim system can also indicate internal hose deterioration.

Is this kit a complete replacement for both sides?

Yes, this is a complete kit containing all four hoses required to service both the port and starboard trim/tilt cylinders for a full system overhaul.

Do I need to bleed the system after installation?

Yes. After installing new hoses, you must purge air from the system. Refill the reservoir and cycle the sterndrive fully up and down several times until its movement is smooth. Re-check the fluid level afterward.

What type of fluid should I use?

Always use the fluid specified in your owner's manual. This is typically Power Trim and Steering Fluid or a compatible alternative from a reputable brand.

How often should hydraulic hoses be inspected?

It is good practice to visually inspect hydraulic hoses at the beginning of each boating season and during routine maintenance. Replace them immediately if you see any signs of wear, damage, or leakage.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
