Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if my sea water pump pulley is failing?
Common signs include a visible wobble while the engine is running, chirping or squealing noises from the belt area, rust streaks originating from the pulley, or visible cracks and damage on the pulley itself.
Does this pulley fit V-belt systems?
No, this is a 6-groove serpentine belt pulley. It is not compatible with older V-belt systems.
What is EDP coating and why is it important?
Electrophoretic Deposition (EDP) is an advanced painting process that applies a protective, corrosion-resistant finish. This is essential for marine components like pulleys that are exposed to moisture and harsh conditions, preventing rust and extending part life.
Is a special tool required for installation?
Standard mechanic's hand tools are generally sufficient. A serpentine belt tensioner tool can make it significantly easier to safely release tension and reinstall the belt.
What is the difference between this pulley and the OEM version?
This aftermarket pulley is engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications for fit, material quality, and performance. It is made from EDP-coated steel just like the original, offering a reliable, cost-effective alternative to the genuine Mercury part.
Can a bad pulley cause the engine to overheat?
Yes. If the pulley fails, it can cause the serpentine belt to slip or break, which stops turning the sea water pump. Without the pump circulating cooling water, the engine will quickly overheat.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
