Installation Notes
- Disconnect the boat's battery and close the engine's water inlet seacock.
- Loosen the serpentine belt tensioner and remove the belt from the sea water pump pulley.
- Loosen the hose clamps and detach the inlet and outlet water hoses from the pump. Note their orientation.
- Remove the mounting bolts holding the sea water pump assembly to the engine bracket.
- Once the pump is removed, unfasten the screws on the rear cover plate.
- Note the direction the existing impeller vanes are bent. The new impeller must be installed with vanes bent in the same direction.
- Pry or pull the old impeller out of the housing. A pair of pliers or a dedicated puller may be needed.
- Clean the inside of the pump housing and cover plate, inspecting for scoring or wear. Replace the housing if damage is severe.
- Lubricate the new impeller and the inside of the housing with a suitable marine lubricant (e.g., glycerin or dish soap).
- Insert the new impeller into the housing, twisting it in the direction of natural engine rotation to bend the vanes correctly.
- Reinstall the cover plate with a new gasket or O-ring, then mount the pump assembly back onto the engine.
- Reconnect hoses, reinstall the belt, open the seacock, and start the engine. Check for leaks and confirm steady water output from the exhaust.
